Information Highway entered the dialup access segment of
the Internet market in 1995 in Toronto, Ontario through its subsidiary
company YESIC. Like other Internet Service Providers (ISPs) at the
time, YESIC offered Internet access, e-mail, and web page hosting
services. The ISP during this period was, at best, a cross between
a switch-board and a toll booth. But the Internet exploded in popularity
and YESIC had 2000 users within a year. Over the course of the next
three years, YESIC grew to over 20,000 users (9000 dialup users).
In 1997 Information Highway purchased Vancouver ISP, Blue Crow Internet
Co., and quickly grew to almost 900 users in the Lower Mainland.
In September 1997, Information Highway created its Software Development
division and began construction of an international network of Internet
Gateways. The first gateway was launched in beta on June 6, 1998.
This Gateway Network, called The Executive Club, is an online service
for the business professional. It has bundled the Internet's best
stock system, travel reservation system, business directories, and
more, and has tailored them into a custom interface designed for
maximum productivity.
